    hello,

    I am a newbee.
I hope this is the right place for my question...

I would like to know how to draw a 16 day Simple Moving Average of an indicator (not of the Open, High, Low or Close)
The specific indicator is a 3/10 Price Oscillator.

If the formula is already available please tell me where I can find it.

    Thank you

It is already available in your Basic Studies and it is the MACD. Set it to 3-10-16, put a check mark in Simple Moving Average (Oscillator) box and uncheck the Histogram display and you will have exactly what you are looking for.

      MACD oscillator

      Hi Alex,

      >>>MACD. Set it to 3-10-16, put a check mark in Simple Moving Average (Oscillator) box <<<

I've used a setting similar to that....that is a very fast early signal.

FWIW I was not necessarily advocating the use of those settings, but simply providing a solution to a specific request from another user on how to quickly and easily create a MA of an Oscillator.

          Hello Alexis,

Thank you so much for your quick reaction.
After reading your solution I couldn't help thinking I should and could
have come up with this myself..
But as you can see in the attachement the price oscillator gives a
          different outcome than the MACD.
          It's not much but.....
I shall also attach the study-edits for PO and MACD.
Please comment on this. I probably did something wrong....

          Best wishes from the Netherlands,
          Frans

FYI when you reply using an email client like you just did attachments are not posted. You need to be online in the forum to post attachments.
As to differences between PO and MACD make sure that you have both set to using either simple MAs or exponential MAs (there are settings in both studies to do this).
Also for some reason that I do not know the values in the PO are different because eSignal applies some divisor depending on price. However the plots themselves should be identical given the same settings.
Never the less it is very easy to create an efs that plots the MA of an Oscillator should the need arise (after seeing your images).

              Hi JJordan,

Yes it's pretty fast. I'm brandnew to daytrading. I used this indicator on
my daily bars. I did not invent it. I got it from Linda Bradford Raschke in
an old issue of Futures Magazine.
              I actually made a point on the short-side this afternoon (15.50AM GMT+1)
when it gave a negative divergence (09.50 AM East coast time)

              Best wishes from the Netherlands,
              Frans

                Hi Alexis,

                Thanks for the info.
I just did what you said about Simple and Exponential and now the
differences become even smaller than they were. Which is probably due to
the fact that E-signal aplies this divisor, as you said.
But furtheron it just works like a breeze.
Thanks again. I will never add attachements if not on-line on the forum !!

                Trade well,
                Frans

The attached efs plots the Oscillator and its MA as per your initial request just in case you would actually prefer to use these rather than the MACD solution suggested earlier by me .
All parameters for both the Price Oscillator and the MA can be modified through Edit Studies.

                    Alex,

Thanks for this efs. I have been looking for something just like this.

                    Cheers mate.

                      Alex,

Is there any chance you could add to this script into indicate when a divergence has occurred or momentum confirmation?

                      Cheers

An efs that identifies divergences based on Momentum already exists ie Div_detect.efs (for bullish divergences) and Div_detectBear.efs (for bearish divergences) both of which I believe you have.
That aside I doubt I could code anything better than those or than Chris Kryza's very complete divergence script.

                          Alex,

                          Thanks. You're correct I do have Div_detect.

                          Cheers

                          P.S.

When I didn't hear from you I thought I had peed you off, asking too many dumb questions
