  • "an invalid argument was encountered" error window pops up

If this question has been answered before, please forgive me for a redundant post. I am new to esignal.

I downloaded esignal version 10.1 on my vista home premium computer.

When I try to add formulars (standard included in the software), every single efs file gives me
error window saying "an invalid argument was encountered".

What could be the problem here?
    Thanks in advance.

"an invalid argument was encountered" error window pops up

I downloaded version 10.1 on vista computer.

When I try to add formulars (standard ones included in the software), every single efs file gives me
error window popping up saying "an invalid argument was encountered".

I tested same version 10.1 on xp computer and it doesn't give
    me any error.

What could be the problem here with vista computer?
    Thanks in advance.

In regards to the error message, it is displayed on the chart or in a dialogue box? Does it appear to be an eSignal error message or a MS/Vista msg?

Might help to post a screen shot if possible.

      Thx

Thanks. I haven't run across that error msg before. We may need one of our EFS gurus to help but in the meantime, I have a few questions.

What version of eSignal did you upgrade from?

You say this happens with every single formula, without exception? Or can you load a "basic study" but not an add-on or one listed under "formulas"?

Anything else appear odd after you upgraded?

          Thanks.

            Thanks Scott,

I signed up esignal on 8/20/08.
Version 10.1 was the first one that I downloaded.

When I go thru chart options -> basic studies, I have NO error.
When I go thru chart options -> formulars and any EFS under
this directory or subdirectories, I have ERROR. These EFS are not
custom created but standard included in the software itself.
EFS itself seems to be not a problem since they work fine on xp machine I tested.

I contacted tech support several times.
They suggested uninstall and reinstall but it did not solve the problem.

            Thanks.

Thanks. I'm a bit stumped. Wondering if this is a Vista compatibility issue but we've had plenty of users on Vista so it's a surprise to see some core problem like this suddenly surface.

We do have Vista on a few machines in the office so we'll do some testing next week and see if we can reproduce. We'll also check in with Engineering in case they have a thought or have seen this prior.

              Thanks.

                Thanks Scott,

Please check with one of your tech support agents,
Shaheed Mehta (I think he was from Sydney office).

He remote logged into my computer and tried many things
(for example, turning off firewall) to see if he can solve the
                problem but no luck.

I really would like to resolve this issue as soon as possible
so that I can use esignal effectively.

                Thanks for your help.

                  Scott,

In the mean time esignal team to figure out the error, is there a way for me to download older version to test if I can run formulas without error?

                  Thanks

                    Scott,

Good news temporarily...I downloaded version 8.0 and it works fine. I will wait for your reply about why it is causing a problem with 10.1 and how to fix it.

In the mean time, I will work with 8.0.

                    Thanks

Now that you have the eSignal working with version 8.0 you may want to try upgrading to version 10.1. This way it's an upgrade and not a new installation.

But before you do I would creates a restore point with this version that way if you encounter the same issue (which I don't thing you will) you can roll back with out having to delete the eSignal folder and reinstalling 8.0.

                        Thank Avery,

How do I upgrade? If I download 10.1 from main esignal web page and install it, will it automatically upgrade instead of new intall?

                        Thanks.

                          Avery,

I upgraded from v8.0 to v10.1 as you suggested
                          and error RETURNED.
So, I am back to v8.0 and NO error.

Does it give you some clue what may be causing this error?

                          Thanks.

We've been testing internally and simply can't duplicate the error, despite many deliberate attempts to do so. We have lots of customers on Vista and we tested on a number of internal systems running the Vista OS so we don't think it's a straight Vista compatibility issue. We suspect some setting on your system or perhaps an add-on running on your system. We're pretty much stumped at this point but we do have some other feelers out in case we get a hit.

                            Thanks.

                              Thank you Scott,

I will try to see if I have any peculiar add-on is running on my computer and will report back here if I find the cause.

I also tried upgrading v8.0 to v10.2 beta but still same error.
So, back to v8.0 in the mean time.

                              Thanks
