  • Installing 1690

For whatever it's worth - this is what I personally do when installing 1690.

I always like to do installs in this order. I'm different than some - but have had good results with this...

    1- I clean first (some don't - I do): http://www.qcsoftwarehelp.com/uninstalling_v6.htm
(I also get rid of v5 using this: http://www.qcsoftwarehelp.com/Doing%...0reinstall.htm and I delete QFAI by just deleting the QFAI folder under "Program Files" and the icon on the desktop) - so at this point I've got ALL remnants of ALL QCharts off the computer. I've got the apps uninstalled, the left behind folders (if any) are manually deleted and the registry's clean. Please be sure before you start all of this deleting that you backup workspaces, layouts, etc that you want to keep if they are in the QCharts install folders. If you want to do this step, and aren't sure about some detail - please ask for help.

2- Install the version I'm after, in this case 6.1.0.1690. Do NOT install QFAI. Thanks Bob and Larry for many years of QFAI, but it's time to bid QFAI goodbye. Remember, the Data Manager now handles the stuff we used to hack at manually, CTRL ALT N (no longer matters), hacking ini files, server roulette - none of that needs to be done now.

3- Run the QCharts installer, accepting the defaults. IF YOU'RE ON VISTA - you still need to do this at this step, just after installation is finished: http://kb.esignalcentral.com/article...icle=3742&p=25

4- Log in after it's finished installing. With this release, you may get some boxes popping up about "Extended Corporate Actions....etc etc" - just click OK on them. If you want to go on and restart QCharts you can (I don't) - but the boxes may come back (just click OK). They'll be squelched in a future release.

5- Once I'm logged in, I set my preferences ("View" ---> "Preferences") like I want:
    - I love the browser tool here. Good job!
    - Display tab - "Charts" section - I set the right margin 3 bars from edge (personal preference).
    - Wallpaper tab - I turn "use wallpaper" off.
    - Workspaces tab - I put a check in "Show workspace full path...." so I can see the path to the workspace I'm running in the title bar of QCharts.

You should look through all of the tabs in the Preferences just to familiarize yourself with the options that can be set. There will be some new options in future releases, like the "Abbreviate Time Labels" under the Display Tab, so check back here when those are released. It's always good to know what's in the Preferences box.

I hope that helps folks that may be having install issues. As always, if you need further assistance, you can find multiple ways to get QCharts help here: http://www.qcsoftwarehelp.com/qchart...tinfo_page.htm
