I've been doing some basic analysis of intra-day NYSE volume using the $TVOL symbol on eSignal. I plot it on a 30-minute bar chart, so what I see is a "stair step" as volume moves higher throughout the day. One simple indicator I've created analyses this data and compares today's intraday volume vs. the intraday volume of the past "x" number of days.
I have a quick question: how would one go about creating a chart similar to the $TVOL 30-minute bar chart using the volume for any stock or futures contract? Is there a way to recreate this same style of chart using any instrument that includes volume information? In a way, it would seem that you'd have to create a fake "price" that is nothing more than the volume.
I'm not too sure whether I'm being clear enough.
Any thoughts?
