Dear QCharts Subscriber:
As you may know, we are transitioning QCharts from its legacy data network to the eSignal network. The last step of that project is nearing completion with the release of QCharts 6.1 in mid-September. As part of this transition, we are also discontinuing the Continuum data network on October 26, 2009. To avoid any interruption in service, you will need to upgrade to QCharts 6.1 by that date. Read on for more information about this required action.
QCharts 6.1
Since the last release, we've been hard at work with QCharts 6.1. Much of the content that has been available on QCharts (such as the Hot Lists) is now also available on the eSignal network. This as well as Sector Lists and 50+ new data fields have been added to QCharts 6.1. In addition, we've done some changes to QCharts to make editing lines easier, allow the use of multiple comment fields and to offer other improvements as well.
If you have an interest in testing pre-release software, we have already made QCharts 6.1 Beta available to the public. You can find information about this release at the following link:
http://forum.esignalcentral.com/foru...s=&forumid=193.
We will make the latest version of QCharts 6.1 available around the week of September 15. Once the 6.1 version is launched, you can download it from http://www.qcharts.com/download/.
Upgrading from 5.1 -- Check Your Hardware
If you have already made the move to QCharts 6.0, transitioning to 6.1 should be simple and straightforward. If you are running QCharts 5.1 or earlier, you'll need to consider other things as well.
First off, QCharts 6.1 requires more computing power than 5.1. This is due in part to the increased number of trades you'll be receiving. More trades and a faster data network translate to better, more accurate trades and quotes. At the same time, it means that you must have a more robust PC to process that additional data. The list given below has the current recommended system requirements for the average QCharts user.
Windows 2000, XP, Vista
IntelĀ® CoreT 2 Duo, 2.0 GHz or faster
17" or larger dual monitors with 1024x768 resolution
2 GB RAM
DSL or cable modem
However, if you are using more than 10 charts, tracking many active symbols or following extremely active symbols, such as the E-mini futures, you will likely need faster hardware, so the following Power User recommendations would apply to you.
Windows XP, Windows Vista
IntelĀ® CoreT 2 Q6600 Quad-Core, 2.4 GHz or faster
2 or more 19" or larger monitors with 1280x1024 resolution
3 GB RAM
DSL, cable modem, T1 or T3 Internet connectivity
Symbol Changes
One of the first differences you will see when upgrading from QCharts 5.1 to 6.1 is a change in many of the symbols. In most cases, QCharts will detect the changes and correctly convert the symbols to the new format. In some cases, though, you may need to rename the symbol to the eSignal format.
For example, the symbol for the Dow Industrials Index is INDEX:INDU in QCharts 5.1. In QCharts 6.1, the symbol is INDEX:$INDU, so QCharts will automatically recognize the difference and change the symbol for you. For the NASDAQ Composite Index, the symbol is INDEX:COMPX in 5.1, but in 6.1, the symbol is INDEX:$COMPQ. QCharts will not automatically update this symbol, so you will need to adjust it in your workspaces.
Required Upgrade
As mentioned before, QCharts 6.1 will be a required upgrade. This means that, to avoid any interruption in service, you will need to update your QCharts software to the latest version by October 26, 2009. Likewise, if you are using 3rd party software that is using this data network, you will need to switch over to the eSignal version of that 3rd party's software by that same date. Please contact your 3rd party software vendor to obtain an eSignal-compatible version of the vendor's software.
Starting the week of October 26, we will begin the process of taking down the legacy data network, otherwise known as the Continuum. During this period, QCharts 5.1 may not be able to connect to the data servers to receive any data. QCharts 6.0 will also be unable to receive Hot Lists or data on Breadthalizer symbols (i.e., QC:ADVN.NY, QC:TICK.DJ) after the Continuum servers have been taken down.
We truly value your business and thank you for your cooperation as we transition toward QCharts 6.1. If you have any questions about the upgrade process or comments about this notice, please contact us by any of the methods mentioned here: http://kb.esignalcentral.com/article=3147&p=25.
