I need to be able, at end of day, to download 1 minute quotes for a large subset of stocks (around 5000 or so). Would this be a problem with the desktop api? What limitations does it have?

I would not suggest using our Desktop API for this at all and our servers would actually more than likely prevent your application from completing your task. That is a tremendous amount of data you are requesting and you would need a much more robust API to accommodate your needs. Please fill out this form and a representative will contact you.
