Excel 2007 Hangs

I have an Excel 2007 based apllication that access's esignal via DDE. The application is stable and runs 24 hours a day without problems. During a machine failure I tried running the same application on a backup machine. On opening the file and enabling links the application hangs. I then went back a stage and tried the basic dde example spreadsheet and the same happens. I have checked all security features on the two copies of excel and they match. The basic esignal front end works perfectly on the backup machine. The machine is XP with service pack 3 installed. Virus software is AVG 8. I have also tried the qlink example sheet and the same happens.

Any thoughts ?

This sounds like it could be problem with Excel itself. I have run into this in the past and using two different methods was able to correct the situation.

Office Repair- Help-->Detect and Repair.

The second time I had to reinstall Excel for the sample to work.

You may want to consider flushing IE cookies. I had a similar situation with the YahooFinance site. They did something to cookies that caused Excel's QueryTable object to fail. Once cookies were flushed, everything began to work.
