  • PivotPointAll question

Alexis, I just switched from trading the ES emini futures to the SPY and I noticed in using the PivotPointAll you wrote for eSignal, I have to refresh my charts after the open to get the correct numbers. I boot eSignal up an hour before the market opens so it should calculate the number correctly then but its not. What if anything can be done to correct this? Thank you in advance.

I tested the efs and as far as I can see it is working as expected.
I opened two intraday charts of SPY at approximately 8:30 ET one set to all sessions and the other to RTH only [since it was not apparent from the context of your post how yours is set up]. These are shown together with a daily chart of the same symbol in the first screenshot enclosed below.
Note that at that time the pivots in the intraday chart that included pre-market data were still showing yesterday's values. This is to be expected because there was no daily bar for the current day yet [daily bars include only RTH data]
Then as soon as a new daily bar formed for the current day [ie at the open of the RTH] the Pivots returned the new values (bottom screenshot) in both charts. Subsequent refreshes of the intraday chart [and also of the daily chart which is used by the script] did not change these values
If this is the behavior you are referring to then it is to be expected. If you want to calculate the current pivots also during pre-market this would require additional logic in the script. Run a search in this forum as I have shown in the past how to do it

Thank you for looking in to this for me. I run a 24/7 template on a 3 minute chart. As with your charts, the pivots refresh at the opening bell. Since the pivits are based on yesterday's data which closed at 4 PM EST, there really is no reason these lines can not be generated any time after 4. Yesterday’s High, Yesterday’s Low, Yesterday’s Close have already been generated so why wait for the 9:30 AM bell? That is my question. Is there a way to have the pivots formulate after the close instead of at the open of the next day? Thanks.

As I explained in my previous reply to do that will require additional logic in the script.
This is because between 16:00 and 9:30 the calculations of the most recent Pivots need to reference the most recent daily bar (since a bar has not yet formed for the new trading day) and between 9:30 and 16:00 they need to reference the second to last daily bar (else the Pivots would be calculated on the current day's data instead of the previous day's data).
Run a search as I suggested and you should find the sample code I provided that will do the above

Alexis, Thanks for the help. I found the forum and script for pre-mkt pivots and it works great. This was never a problem trading ES futures because the new days always started at 5:30 PM the night before. I really appreciate your help.
