  • Tick Data Problem

I am facing a serious problem in tick data advance charting. The problem is:
I am using ES # F 300T chart, When DATA moves fast my system freezes while in cursor window i can see the tick moving fast, after 2 to 3 bars when mkt. slow down then the bars appear in chart and I can move my cursor.
My system is PIII- 900MHz, XP with 512MB RAM.

Is anyone using tick charts and have the same problem?

While we wait for other users to chime in, just a thought regarding trend lines and/or other graphics on that chart. Have you experimented with removing all old lines and graphical objects (even if they aren't viewable on the screen)? That may free-up CPU time, especially if you have hundreds of old lines on that chart (which a few other users discovered once they starting looking for them).

One other way to test this is just to open a new chart and keep it as clear of additional components as possible ( lines, studies, EFS's, etc. )

    Thanks.

        Hi,

The same problem occurs in seconds charts (30s or 15s for example) and to a lesser extent on normal charts measured in minutes. (It probably occurs in volume charts too but I havn't tested this.)

Sometimes when there are no efs running and the market is fast there can be a delay of many seconds. I think part of it is the computer's ability to keep up, but I think part of it is down load speeds (for me at least only having access to 56k) and server delays (although I doubt esignal will acknowledge this, when you have extreme action across a very large number of symbols servers will slow down and then catch up again. Makes sense too, if my machine has occasional problems with 2 or 3 symbols then even the most powerful servers will have problems with many thousands...). This has been clearly demonsrated by another member of this forum but I don't know if it has been addressed.

Speed is an issue I'm currently dealing with too especially since I started using charts measured in seconds rather than minutes, and the pricing difference between my charts and my trading platform can at times be clearly visible and measured with the naked eye.

Keeping charts clean of anything not immediately required helps in a very big way, and using only those studies that are absolutely 100% necessary (I maybe use 1 or 2 only and they are very small and quick to operate like volume) helps enormously, but does not fully address the problems, although in 90% of cases it does provide the solution.

        Kind regards

        Natalie
