Possibly using the Average True Range indicator will solve your issue. It was developed by Welles Wilder I believe, and depending on the instrument you're trading, should give you an accurate picture for recent volatility.
Typically, the setting is for 14 periods, but I've been using 9 periods of ATR as an additional indicator for recognizing breakouts and risk assessment.
Im trying to plot the average length / range of a bar.
ie the simple average of the high minus the low over say five periods, as a measue of volatility or marker noise if you prefer.
The ATR gets involved with closing prices and this confuses the issue on very small time frames, mainly used for electronic traded futures. i have this as easylanguage code but am new to esignal and would appreciate any efs assistance.
