  • Weekly Reference Pivot Points

How could I change the Pivot Points EFS to reference Weekly Pivots instead of Daily pivots and be able to apply that to intraday and daily charts?

    Thanks

    Hello Dukefist,

Click here to download PivotPointAllweekly.efs. This formula will give you the weekly pivots and may be applied to intra-day or Daily intervals.

        Monthly Pivots?/

Hi Guys, great post this one as this is similar to what I was attempting. As a newcomer to esignal I wanted to look at the value of more longer term pivot points.
Jason, I analysed the weekly version of what you did in the hope of translating it for a monthly format. Changing just the "W"s to "M"'s seems too easy and theres a statement on line 71 that seems to calculate the weekly time period in there as its got divide by 7.....so is there an easy way around converting this to show Monthly pivots on the weekly and below timeframes????
        Many thanks in advance
        John

          Hello John,

The formula below will give you the monthly pivot points and can be used with intra-day, daily or weekly intervals.

            Pivot points

Hi jason, many thanks for that. It looks good. Just a couple of things.
            1) This prints only on Intraday. If I wanted say Monthly to print on D or weekly, is that just a case of altering the line 19, which looks like it excludes periods from display?
            2) You mention intraday intervals but it won't work if i type in 60 instead of M or W. Is that correct?
            3) I see from looking at the 60min in January that it shows the monthly PP as 844.32 on $SPX when the actual monthly PP is 901.18...all the following months are fine on intraday (and definitely on D/W)-is this just because there is not a full month of intraday data in jANUARY? If so Its not a problem as long as who ever uses it is aware of that point.
            Once again thanks very much
            All the best

              Hello John,

              1) The formula should be working for you on a Daily, Weekly and 60 intervals. See images below. Are you not getting the same results?

2 & 3) The formula does work with an intra-day interval of 60 (see above). However, you are correct in that there is not enough data in the chart to calculate the correct PP. If you look at the daily chart above you will see the PP calculated correctly. Every formula has a starting point related to the amount of data loaded in the chart, which can affect some calculations at the oldest bar(s).

I have a question in regards to Pivots. I noticed on my Tradestation the Pivots are calculated for the emini with the normal market hours (9:30-4:00pm est) High Low Close while E-Signal is using the entire days 24hr H L C. Which should be used? What do the floor traders use? The Tradestation Pivots from normal hours seem to be pretty accurate in terms of res and support of price (when they are diff. then E-Signal). Some days they match up as the normal market hour range creates the daily range.

You can have them based on 9:30-16:15 also on eSignal if you want. Just use ES M3=2 (or ES #F=2 if using the continuous). The pivots will then be calculated on RTH only.

Sweet. Thanks a lot. Have you noticed it better to use 9:30-16:16 session or 24hr session? Any preference?

                      Thanks,
                      Duke

When I add PivotPointAllWeekly.efs to a 60-minute, 10-day chart, it shows new weekly pivots starting on the Tuesdays of the week, rather than on the Mondays. The monthly study shows the monthly pivots changing on the first of each of each month, just as expected. Do you have any ideas on why the weekly pivot points are coming out like this?
