Smoothing non-MA data

I appreciate the ability to "further smooth" MAs! But I need to smooth other, user-created input. MA smoothing is too smart for me, and won't accept my data. I don't want to expend the time/effort/error-chasing involved in writing my own WEIGHTED and EXPONENTIAL (I've conquered SIMPLE) smoothing routines. Are there existing studies for this purpose, or is there a way to fake out MA-smoothing? Thanks for any help... ~ Irv ~
