  • EFS batch processing? There has to be a way!

Every now and then I think that there HAS to be a way to do this, so I spend a few hours searching the EFS documentation, only to be discouraged and go back to doing things the way it works now.

I'm using eSignal 7.9 and I take a list of stocks from an outside program (ValueLine) and import into the quote window as a Dynamic Quote File. That let's me link to an Advanced Charting window, in which I can apply my EFS studies, etc. As I either click through the stock list of navigate with the keyboard, the chart window updates appropriately. All is well so far.

However, the quote list is rather large - a few hundred symbols - and the act of clicking through the list, just so my EFS functions execute and can show me certain indicators - and if the indicators are not "green", I move on to the next. If the indicators are there, I can open another window and come back later for more detailed study.

But what I want - need - to save more time is the ability to run my EFS studies against a list in "batch" mode and only show/list the symbols that "pass". Looking through EFS, it would seem that I have the ability to read through files but I don't have the ability to execute my EFS studies against a specific symbol or change the symbol in an Advanced Charting window (do I?)

So is there anyway to open/read a text file of symbols, "load" each of the symbols to have my EFS studies execute and then perhaps write out only the symbols that "pass"?

I need some help saving more time...

    Hello kbford,

Currently we do not have this type of ability. It's an interesting idea and I can certainly see the value in having this type of feature. However, this type of routine would greatly increase the demand on our data servers and would potentially require some heavy processing at the desktop. Consequently, it's this very reason that we limit a single EFS from accessing data for more than 7 symbols. The data for each symbol must be downloaded before the EFS can be processed on that data. The routine could be compounded further based on the amount of data being requested according to the time template settings. Adding this feature would most likely require some major changes, so it's not likely to be added. However, I would still encourage you to submit your idea to our development team at

      Hi Jason,

Searching for something along similar lines, I found this thread and I have a question: Does the 7 symbo;s limit apply even if we use one symbol at a time and use reload efs to re-run it for the new symbol?

      Thank you

        Hello Mihai,

Using reloadEFS() will also run into the limitation.
