  • encryption test failed

Encryption did not seem to protect a script which was processed as encrypted. I copied the encrypted files (both a "Normal Encryption" version, and an "Enhanced Encryption" version) of the same simple file, by burning a CD of the files (by Nero) and then putting the CD into another computer, and logging in on that 2nd Computer to a separate eSignal account ( I have two) with a separate User name and ID. Then I loaded the files successfully from the transfer CD in a folder I had pre-created in eSignal Program files/Formulas. Then I right clicked on a chart on computer number two and clicked on Formulas and found the transferred (supposedly "encrypted" files). I clickedo on them to bring them onto a chart, and that worked for both. Then I opened the EFS Text Editor on Computer #2 and successfully opened both files !! (THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED??) ==no protection. I was able to open and edit the efs files "encrypted" with a successful completion indicated on eSignal computer #1 (account #1), and then after transferring to Computer #2, account #2, I was easily able to open and edit files crypted by both the normal and enhanced techniques.
Fyi, I created a speial simple test file for this paurpose, by starting with a blank Text Editor page and typing in by hand the exact script for the EFS Library version of "ATR.efs." (a short simple script).
So, why do I not seem to get the "desired "encryption" effect??

I must be missing something very simple. But, I put a green checkin the box in the Encryption Window, correctly selecting the file from a browser, and the green progress bar for the encryption effort showed completion. I even susequently renamed the enhanced encrypted file back to a simple ".efs", as suggested. Tried it both ways. But, none of my efforts precluded me from access to the files, nor asked me for any passwords (normal method), when I tested the transferred files for protection.

Appreciate any help on this. Would like to know I can executed a procedure correctly to protect a file, when needed.

    Thx,

    Tilmon

As far as I can see the efs you attached to your post is encrypted.

      encryption failure/success

      Alexis,
On one hand I am delighted to hear that the file I sent you appeared to be encrypted.
That leaves unanswered why my test here"boomeranged" and told me it was not encrypted. Perhaps I shall try to run the file on a couple other machines i have around here with eSignal on them, a laptop, etc. Anyway, its back to the plastic flow chart template at my drawing board for a while on this one.
Thanks for the adevice at your end.
      No further reply needed.

      thx,
