  • Built-in Moving Average not filling chart

In an advanced daily chart I am plotting three moving averages (21 day, 50 day and 200 day) using the Basic built-in Moving Average study.
When I first chart a new symbol the 200-day line starts at mid screen (30-October '06) and runs to the right (75 data points). If I drag the chart to bring in older data the line will eventually replot and fill the screen. Why does the 200-day line not act like the rest of the moving averages?
Is there a fix for this to make it update the full chart without fiddling?

That happens because the study needs 200 bars to begin plotting and you are using a Time Template set to Dynamic which will load only enough data to fill the screen. As you scroll back the chart requests more data which then allows the study to fill the screen.
The solution is to set the Time Template to request more bars to begin with for that (or any other) interval.
For information on Time Templates and how to use them see this article in the eSignal KnowledgeBase
