  • New to Esignal Formula and I'm lost..

Appologies in advance, but I'm not getting the sense of this..
I keep reading reference to a Formula Wizard via Tools on menu bar..I have no "Tools" on menu bar..(running Version 7).

I hoped this would help me to set up some formulas..alas.

As an idea I downloaded a study from the library. It is saved on my Desktop...

If I may (finally) ask..should I have downloaded it to another location.?

In other words how do I see this formula study on my charts...

    Appreciate any help...thx..

Before you do anything else may I suggest you upgrade your version of eSignal to the latest one which is 7.3 (unless you have a specific reason not to do so).
    You can download 7.3 here.
I am not positive about this but I believe you can install directly over your version of the software. However it might be prudent to uninstall first and then install the new version.
If someone from eSignal reads this they may be able to provide further guidance.

      Alexis..grateful for the reply..

I have chosen to stay with present Ver 7.0.
Over last year or so, I have had many problems with "latest" build versions of esignal..crashes and freezing, winsig errors..etc..

This particular version and build number, worked and I have been loathed to install any since..

presumably, the Formula Wizard is part of a later version..

Would you know if I am able to use the downloaded study I mentioned, and how i may see it on a chart..?

      Regards and thx

I understand your choice, but as time goes by you will find that there will be less formulas available for you to run as they will make use of functions that have been introduced with later versions.
Irrespective to answer your question all the formulas you download should be put in any of the subfolders of Formulas folder which is in the eSignal directory (see under Program Files if you accepted the defaults at the time of the install).
As I said though make sure that the formulas you will be downloading are compatible with your version of the software.

I understand and appreciate what you say regards newer versions, thx.

I have found the Subfolders you refered to. There are a number of studies already installed, as part of download no doubt.

I am however having difficulty finding out how to use these on a chart...

Under the "Formula" tab on menu bar i have
          Editor
          Encrypt/Decrypt
          Output window
          Settings..

I've been through each. but nothing is making sense to me ...
          Regards and thx

          Edit..

took me a while but I've managed to see where from and how to put the pre downloaded formulas onto a chart..they are pretty basic, brash and not very subtle..this may be a result of older Ver 7 and older facilities as you mentioned Alex.. I'll think about an upgrade..I may try it on an older pc, but I have a vague recollection that the newer versions do not run on Win 98, but rather Win XP and 2000..

many thanks you for your help..

          regards

Right click on a chart and you should see Formulas in the context menu. If you click on it you should then see all the subfolders each containing various formulas.
This is where you select the formulas to apply to a chart

Under the "Formula" tab on menu bar i have
            Editor
            Encrypt/Decrypt
            Output window
            Settings..

Editor is the utility to actually program or edit the formulas.
            Encrypt/Decrypt should be self explanatory.
Output Window is the window that you use to Debug the formulas that you are writing.
Settings is where you set global settings for the formulas.

they are pretty basic, brash and not very subtle..this may be a result of older Ver 7 and older facilities

The program and the formulas have made quantum leaps since then. Many of the formulas that come with the program or that are available in FileShare and in this Bulletin Board are extremely sophisticated in both scope and coding.

the newer versions do not run on Win 98, but rather Win XP and 2000

FYI I run it on win98SE all the time.

              Alex.

Many thx for your help and feedback.

I'm pleased to hear that all works on Win98sec .

I'm in the process of downlaoding the "latest" esignal on a Win98 pc...

Again, many thx for your help.

              regards
