Is it possible to create an efs that will send a text message alert to your cell phone?

  • #2
If you are referring to the standard "Text Messaging" (i.e. SMS), then no, this format is not supported. However, if your phone accepts emails, then yes it can be done. An FAQ on the subject can be found here.

In conjunction, with the FAQ this snippet from the EFS Help Center should help.

        Sure...

Use the ALERT functions within EFS to create a message that is sent to your cell phone number. This email well arrive to your phone as a "text message". My phone handles this, I'm sure your's does.

If you are asking about the "instant messaging" feature within (between) the phones, this may not be possible as it is normally offered as an additional service (separate from email type text messages).

Most cell phone providers supply a gateway email address that will convert email to SMS messages. Many also supply regular email address that will also be sent to your phone. Be aware that it is estimated that >10% of SMS messages never get through. They are not stored on the server and there is no handshake to verify that the phone got the message. With regular email the data is stored on the server until it deleted by the user.

If you think that these alerts you want to send are important, I wouldn't use SMS.

This is exactly what i want to do. How would I write the efs for example:

Every hour send text message showing the closing price of SP Minis along with closing price of DOW to the phone number
