  • Keltner w/ Constant Bands

Has anyone tested Keltner with Constant Bands?

There appears to be a glitch in the formula as the bands are way too far apart from the mid-keltner band.

The formula calls for a constant of 1.3 which when written is
0.13 however it appears the bands are closer to the where they should be if it is changed to .0013

    Any ideas?

    Hello rregular,

Which specific Keltner formula are you referring to? Did you check to see if there is a formula parameter for adjusting the constant for the bands? Right-click on the advanced chart and go to the "Edit Studies" option.

      Keltner w/ Constant Bands

      Hello Jason

      Thankyou for your advice.

I did right click on Edit studies but this did not alter the bands

        Hello rregular,

Please try one of our Keltner formulas here. You will find several variations and the ability to adjust the bands via the "Edit Studies" option.

Re: Reply to post 'Keltner w/ Constant Bands'

          Hi Jason,

          Thankyou for your input.

Have you actually tried to use the Keltner w/ Constant Bands as they stand
with the setting already in place?

If you have the time could you just check it. As I said the current formula
with 8EMA and constant 1.3 is exactly what I need but when you apply it to
the emini S&P the bands are way too far apart and distort the chart. I trade
          using 3min charts.

Using edit studies seems to only work when you input the constant by .0013
that is by inserting and extra zero after the decimal that the bands seem to
          fit correctly.

Unless I am doing something wrong? But I did use edit studies and that did
not change anything until I inserted the extra zero.

          Regards
          rrelgar

            Hello rregular,

The factor of 1.3 for the constant is a percentage of the Keltner basis line. Using this formula with the S&P emini will give you bands at +/- 1.3% of the basis line.

If the default of 1.3% is too high for you, entering 0.0013 or .13% for the constant is the correct way to adjust the bands to a level you specify.
