I have created DDE links for bollinger bands and they seem to be working fine now. Is it possible to have the values only update on the close of the bar, rather than in real time. I would like to use these values as limit entries and having them update in real time affects the order placement.

see ComputeOnClose() can be set in the script, in preMain() or there is a Preferences setting to make all scripts act that way.
Alternatively, you could consider using the Open for the BBs calculation, see how it affects the lines.
