I ran across an interesting link tonight during a conversation with my son. It is a link to the Belarc site which

The Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, including Microsoft Hotfixes, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server.

Not only does it tell you exactly all the hardware that is on your system, it also identifies the Service Tag number for the machine plus all the software that is on your system. Additionally, it identifies all the registered software plus the License numbers for all of them, something which is indispensable if you ever have problems with your machine.
I thought this was worthwhile, so I am passing along.
