  • AGET CPU Compatibility

I have heard that AGET does not work reliably with a Pentium 4 HT (Hyperthread Technology) CPU. I am getting ready to upgrade my computer to an Athlon64 CPU with HyperTransport Technology. Will my AGET work with this capable processor?

I to am about to update my computer too.

Alex, can you please tell us what version you are running to get it to work OK, please?

Also does a faster hard drive make the searches happen faster or is it some other part of the computer like CPU, RAM etc, etc?

My searches take minutes and I want them done in seconds

        Cheers,
        Mike

            Fast Searches

With regards to speeding up the searchs of GET EOD, this program is IO bound and needs a little size nine in the rear to get it going,

what Ive done is created a 150 Meg ramdrive and loaded my data into it.

Then I point the GET software to this ramdrive for the data references

this speeds up my searchs, Ive come from 15 minutes or so down to 30 - 40 seconds

Now the searches are CPU bound which is faster

If you want to upgrade your PC, make sure you get the 925 chipset on the motherboard along with the 1024MHZ front side bus and then to reallya makeit sing get the DDR2 memory, this will sync up the CPU, Bus and memory to make the fastest PC on the market, all you have to do is choose a CPU, why not try a 3.6 Hyperthreading one, with the larger L2 cache, now they really go.

so all in all, you can improve the search speeds by 700% at least

                No Worries Mike,

here is the website for the ramdrive software and an image of the setup screen, very straight forward, no fiddling just set the size and go.

                  Hi Ainsley,

I got my network man to do it for me already but my file was way too big.

I'm still trying to import the optionable stock list to take the file to under 150MG to fit into the Ramdisk.

Do you have the optionable stocks in txt format to make importing it easy?

I have the cboe list on excel but I'm asking around to get it put into the proper txt format and layout so it can easily work with AGET.

If you can help me out that'd be fantastic

                  Mike D.

                    Data formats

It would seem that you are spending too much time fiddling with the data, this time could well be better spent on using GET.

I get my data from Paritech, the program downloads daily or intraday and sorts the data into, Stocks, Options and Warrants.

So all I do is move the required portfolio into the Ramdrive.

My ASX data directory is 51.1 meg so smallish and easy to copy.

Also the data can be sorted into indice sectors which is good if you are using an indice / sector chart to find some support for the underlying stocks

see below an image of my data directory structure that I point GET to.

Speak to Craig from Paritech for you data, mention my name and he may well add a few bucks to the price (Hur Hur)

                      Hi Ainsley,

I should have mentioned I only trade the US. I gather from your last post you only trade Australia.

The whole US data file was about 850MG. When I get it down to 2500 stocks that will speed up the searches dramatically but I don't know it I'll be able to fit it into a 150MG RAMdisk. I might have to make it bigger.

I get my data from Hubb international for optiongear and I use this data for AGET too. Optiongear puts the data into my MSData folder. This save me from having to pay esignal for the same data.

I'm not fiddling with data, I'm just trying to import a US optionable stock list as I only trade options.

It's an uphill battle getting set up again with AGET but I'll get there.

                      Appreciate your help thus far.

                      Cheers
                      Mike D.

Been watching the traffic - I spoke with Hubb some time back and they did a pitch for my business explaining that they were hooked up with optionetics and that GET was their preferred system and that their data would just slide on in to my GET data directories - no fuss.

Seems that it is not that simple

                        Cheers

                          US Data

Paritech sell the US data as well,

See below a link to a PC hardware shop, you can get 2Gig of DDR2 memory for 499, costs a bit but if you use it all the time and it saves time, then it should be worth it.

                            Hi Philby,

The process was pretty easy with the help of staff at Hubb.

The problem is MS Data is old style. I can download the data in 3 minutes. Distributing the data to the MSData file takes 35 minutes. Then each of the 4 searches I do takes 15 minutes.

Add it all up and I have 1.5 hours to wait. Stuff that!

This is why I want optionable stock list to search 2500 instead of 8500. To cut down time.

A faster computer and RAMdisk will take this down to seconds (I hope).

                            Thanks,
                            Mike D

Here's an update on trying to speed up AGET searches and distrubuting data on my new computer.

I bought a P4 with 3.2 Ghz processor with 1.5 Gig of RAM.

These new fast bits didn't speed up searches or distribution of the data.

So I built a RAMDisk and put the data there and it didn't speed the searches up at all.

Anyone got anymore suggestions or explanations why it's so slow?

                              Regards,
                              Mike D.
