    Hi Guys,
I have a very simple question regarding the Elliott wave oscillator.
Can anybody tell me why the default parameters on this indicator have been originally set to 5-35?
    Thx

Tom Joseph, the developer of Advanced GET tools and techniques, has been successfully trading futures contracts and stocks for years using that setting. He later introduced the other 5/17 and 10/70 parameters to be used in other situations.

I just thought I would add, that the 5/35 oscillator also help for counting the elliott wave. If you follow Elliott. ie the 3rd wave is the tallest, 90% of the time the 4th retraces to zero, etc.

        My two cents,

The oscillators represent different groups of traders.

          The 10/70 are the institutions.
The 5/35 are the swing traders.
The 5/17 are the day traders.

In my opinion, the greatest value of the oscillators is how they move with each other. If a 10/70 wave is building and is greater than 80%, then the institutions are in control.

That being the case, then the movement of the 5/35 within the context of the higher timeframe gives you better intry and exit points for swing trading.

Likewise, the shorter 5/17 is used for daytrading within the larger trend.

Look at some different charts and see how the 3 move as the price moves. I frequently have all three oscillators stacked on top of each other to see where we are relatively.

More food for thought. If all 3 oscillators are around the 0 line and none of them are above or below the strength lines, then what would you do? I would look elsewhere until a tradeable situation is presented in that market.

The 5/35 moving to the 0 line in a wave 4 is the signal that it is, in fact, a valid wave 4. This is the setup for a Type 1 trade. You don't take the trade because it has pulled back to the 0 line and has labeled as W4, but wait until you have an entry trigger to get into the trade. If the oscillator goes through the zero line and keeps going, you may or may not have a valid W4. At this point, the wave count could renumber itself.

Didn't mean to ramble on. Hope this helps.
          Cheers!

          Matt

You may want to take a look at the MultiOsc located here:
