I see you asked the same question in the Desktop API Forum. Are you referring to downloading/saving data using the Desktop API or by other means?

If you intend to download the data for a few securities only once in a while and you don't need to append the downloaded data to existing files then you can use the Data Export Tool. This will allow you to download data in ASCII (csv) format that Excel can read directly. For information on Data Export see this article in the eSignal KnowledgeBase. FYI I found the article by searching the KB for "export" (without the quotes)
If instead you want to download and update data files for multiple securities on a regular basis then the easiest solution is to use a third party downloader like Qcollector. You can find a link to Qcollector in the same article mentioned above
