Difference between NYSE Composit Vol and $TVOL

Friday, the NYSE Composite Vol was about 7billion shares but the $TVOL shows 1.65 billion. What is $TVOL actually? Is there a symbol for the NYSI Composite Vol?

Years ago, those figures used to match. $TVOL is adding trade volumes for NYSE-listed issues that get executed on the NYSE. What the NYSE site is reporting is NYSE-Listed issues that trade anywhere and they may even be adding the volume of NASDAQ issues that trade on NYSE.

We currently don't have an index equivalent to the total volume displayed on the NYSE site.
