  • When does a daily bar start?

    Hi.

I need to know when does a daily bar start.
Here's an example of live cattle(LE).

CME Globex (Electronic Platform) MON 9:05 a.m. - FRI 1:55 p.m. Central Time
    Daily trading halts 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Central Time
    Open Outcry (Trading Floor) MON-FRI: 9:05 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Central Time

When I look at the daily bar chart of LE(globex),
does a bar start with the start of open outcry time(9:05am)?
Or does it start at 00:00 hour(equals 24:00)?

And when does a bar end?
Does it end at 4:00 pm?
Or does it end at 00:00 hour?

Let me make it clear that
What I want to know is when a daily bar starts
    and when it ends.

    Here's another example of 6A.

    GLOBEX (ETH)Sundays: 5:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Central Time (CT) next day. Monday – Friday: 5:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CT the next day, except on Friday - closes at 4:00 p.m. and reopens Sunday at 5:00 p.m. CT.

When does a daily bar start and when does it end?

I know this is really a basic question.
But I don't know it yet.

Please someone explain how it works.
    Thanks for reading.

    Regards.

When a daily bar starts and ends depends on the security's specifications. In eSignal the daily bar includes all the trading of the regular session as specified by the exchange plus the daily Settlement.
So for example with NYSE or NASDAQ stocks this means from 9:30 ET to 16:00 ET of the trade date plus the Settlement which is usually transmitted a few minutes after the regular session's closing time
With securities that trade overnight the daily bar starts at the open of the session on the day prior to the trade date [with some exceptions] and ends at the close of the session on the trade date plus the Settlement which usually occurs shortly after the regular closing time
Using ES as an example the daily bar starts at 15:30 CT of the day prior to the trade date [except on Sundays when it starts at 17:00 CT] and ends at 15:15 CT of the trade date plus the Settlement which is usually transmitted a few minutes after 15:15 CT. In other words using Tuesday's daily bar as an example this starts on Monday afternoon at 15:30 CT and ends Tuesday afternoon at 15:15 CT and then includes the Settlement which is usually transmitted just after the close
In the case of LE the daily bar starts at 17:00 CT of the day prior to the trade date and ends at 16:00 CT of the trade date [except on Monday when it starts at 9:05 CT of the trade date] and will include the Settlement
In the case of 6A the daily bars starts at 17:00 CT of the day prior to the trade date and ends at 16:00 CT of the trade date and will include the Settlement

        Is this right?

        thanks for your help.
Let me find whether I really understand it.
        Here's the case of ZC(corn-globex).

CME Globex (Electronic Platform) 6:00 pm - 7:15 am and 9:30 am - 1:15 pm central time, Sunday - Friday Central Time

        So this means
a Monday bar starts at Sunday 6:00 pm and
ends at Monday 1:15 pm, with a 7:15 am to 9:30 am halt.
        Am I right?

Thanks again for your quick and detailed help.

        Regards.

That is correct and you should be able to easily verify this using a daily and intraday chart and looking at the intraday Open and Close values at the appropriate times and then matching those to the values of the corresponding trade date on the daily chart
