  • Comex futures symbols question

Can someone explain comex futures symbols to me. So I get that Gold is GC and that GC #F is I'm assuming continuous futures. However I don't get the 8 expiry letter codes - G,J,K,M,N,Q,V,Z.

Usually you have 4 for quarterly expiry or 12 for monthly expiry. What do the 8 symbols mean and how do they work?

    thanks in advance,

The 8 expiry letters just means that the future has more contracts than a symbol that would trade on quaterly contracts. For the letters you listed the monthly contracts would be as follows: G=February, J=April, K=May, M=June, N=July, Q=August, V=October, Z=December. These letters would be typed in, in just the same way a quarterly letter would be typed in, so for Dec. gold you would type in GC Z2 for 2012. Hope this helps, thank you.
    Thank you,
