Volume on $NDX

When I chart $NDX, the volume pane shows volume at 4 (?) with very few spikes above or below this level.
Is there something or some set up that I d'ont understand ?

I suppose you are looking at a 1 minute chart in which case what you are seeing is the tick volume ie the number of updates for that interval.
