  • New Design to the Software?

I know this does not help with actual trading but I was wondering if you could improve the design of the software.

Basically, Im talking about having skins just like the FXCM software has. You could have a Windows Vista style skin for example. You could allow users to use the traditional skin of esignal or opt to use a new skin.

The current version reminds me of windows 95. I have no idea why eSignal has been so hesitant about making the software modern.

Im not sure how complicated this would be. Could you let me know the chances of this being introduced in the next release please?

    Thanks,
    kbw

      Dont bother

I have send many ideas to esignal and I have never seen any changes in esignal.
It is a waste of time. The last version of esignal, 10 that is, had no changes other than awfull data and the advanced get scanner.

        Thevinman,

Please don't think that sending your ideas is a waste of time. We evaluate the ideas and then programmatically try and figure when and where we can implement then in. As you know not all things go as planned and schedules get shuffled. Obviously bugs fixes have to take priority over all else. We have to resolve the issue that cause the product not to function properly and then we can work on enhancements.

We admit Version 10 did have some issues but it also had enhancements for all of the Advanced Get users who had requested the ability to use the Advanced Charts and their custom studies.

Version 10.1 will have the QuoteTrader Account and Trade Manager windows and for the first time EVER will allow other vendors data to be used within these select windows in eSignal. There is a complete list of bug fixes and feature enhancements for this version here.

We are listening to your ideas however they do take time, so keep them coming and we’ll do what we can to make them available for you.

There is a new esignal version 10.3 coming out soon. What are the chances of the software design being updated with a current look?

Currently it looks like something my grandfather would have used.

          Kind regards,

While 10.3 contains some nice new functionality (like drag and drop columns and symbols), the overall look remains pretty much the same. With the next version, you will start to see some significant framework and look & feel differences.

            Thanks.

              Many Thanks for eSignal 11

              Great work guys!!

I got a pleasantly surprising email today showing a preview of eSignal 11.

Finally the software has been updated as I have wanted for a very very long time. It looks great & modern.

Thanks & I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Has the trading API interface been improved in v11 to allow fully automated trading from EFS? That is, an EFS is notified of the status of an order so that it can react to a change in order state.

As a 6 year customer of eSignal, my first reaction to the phrase "rebuilt from the ground up" was...

If it's that dramatic of a re-development effort rather than just a lot of GUI changes then I would have expected a move from EFS to opening up the EFS API to the Microsoft .Net Framework so that anyone could develop indicators or trading interfaces in any language compilable by the .Net platform.

Now THAT would be groundbreaking stuff. There would be significant performance gains in script computations.

In my opinion, eSignal has the best charting around. But they really do need to play catch-up to get their programming interfaces into the 21st century (and not so stuck in the mid to late 90's).

This would be very useful, indeed. Compiled efs.

                    Hello SteveH,

The first release of the new eSignal version is mostly a transfer of existing features into a new framework and GUI. With the subsequent releases we'll be adding new and improved features.

Regarding EFS we will be adding tracing, or JIT compilation, which will greatly improve EFS execution.

Regarding Automated trading in EFS, yes, this is also planned for one of the subsequent releases of the new eSignal.

Thank you also for your ideas on .NET. Although it is not something we will be evaluating in the near term, it will be further evaluated in the future.

WOW - JIT Compilation would be EXTREMLY Important, because interpreting big EFS Program is TOO SLOW.

THANKS FOR THIS NEWS - IT WAKES HOPES.

BTW - I hope that you put most attention to the new version regarding performance. This should be 1st priority!!! Really....

All other is NICE to HAVE.

I have a 4 kernel Intel processor with 3.3 GHZ, lot of fast ram, basically endless resources....
These Freezes in the other threat is what I have too. And during this events the processor usage is less than 40%, and Ram usage is around 50%. And this is VERY annoying, because Trading appears like an IFR - Flight without equipment...
OK - I am using big EFS Programs. Therefore your announcement sounds wonderful!!! But current freezing problems are subject of Software Architecture and lack of usage of modern programming technics and possibilies too (e.g. Multitasking, multithreading) - at least in the versions up to date.
AT THE END - Thanks again - you have raised big hopes in the new version!!! Please dont forget compatibility (EFS) to extensions that are developed for current versions.

Have a wonderful day - and much success in Developing V11

eSignal is going to replace Mozilla's SpiderMonkey Javascript interpreter with their latest incarnation...TraceMonkey.

                          Any new studies / indicators?

Will we be lucky this time to see some new studies / indicators in v11? All we get in new versions of eSignal are newer color combinations and customizations, while zero improvements in terms of studies. True, continuously updated EFS library makes up for that. But what is also true is that certain basic line tools like Gann Lines / Speed Resistance Fan are sorely missing from eSignal - a matter even EFS will find hard to address.

                            AG,

eSignal 11's development is in a mode of migration currently. This means most of our focus is moving windows and features over to the new platform and using the newer interface features.

While I agree that Gann Lines and Speed Resistance Fans would be excellent additions to the product, we need to have all the basics in the application first. After the vast majority of items from the 10 series are moved into the 11 series, we'll be back to an enhancement mode.

A key point to keep in mind is eSignal 11.0 is a launching point...a platform that all of our desktop products will be based on and all future enhancement will be created from.
                            Regards,
                            Jay F.

Any idea of when it will be officially released?
