Volume On The DOW

When I insert the symbol $INDU in a quote screen and have a column for volume, is this reported volume for the 30 DOW stocks only?

I'm asking because when I add up the individual volumes on the DOW 30, it doesn't add up to what is reported in the volume column.

Sorry if this has been covered before but I did a search and didn't find the answer.

Hello Havok,

Although all of the stocks in the Dow 30 trade on regional exchanges as well as two NASDAQ stocks the volume is calculated based on trades completed on the equities primary exchanges.
(AA=N displays information based strictly on the NYSE and no regional)
(MSFT=Q Are trade based on the NASDAQ exchange only).
