  • Random price jumps in continuous contract charts

Any continuous contract chart I use for futures periodically has a price jump to some arbitrary price at the start of a new bar after an index of 0 is reached. Has anyone ever dealt with this before? Is there a way to prevent this from happening? It only happens for continuous contract charts, and I hvae to refresh the chart each time this occurs. Thanks!

It would really help to get some specific examples (i.e. symbols, interval, chart type, etc) and a screenshot before you refresh would be even better.

    Thanks.

These are pictures of gold futures (GC). The code is %GC 1!;6MH;B;MQIN

The first is the jump, the second is the refresh.

Thanks for the examples, Mort. We'll take a look in the code and try to hunt this down.

I don' t know if this is exactly the same thing as the OP is referring to, but I very often see the attached example occur at about the same time of the day ( about 30 minutes into the evening session) on a 1 minute chart for %JGB10 1!-TPX;2E;B;HMUZIN. After refreshing the data is correct. I don't look at this chart every day, and while I have seen days where it doesn't occur, I'm pretty sure it happens on most days.

Yes, this is likely the same. Our QA team have preliminarily isolated this to the back adjusting portion of the continuous contract as the value of the difference relates to the back adjustment between the last rollover. We are continuing to investigate, but one additional workaround besides the refresh is to eliminate the ;B portion of symbol.

Eliminating the B solved the problem completely. Thanks for looking into this, I have been curious for a long time. It happens with all continuous contracts that are back adjusted

                Back adjusted futures contracts

                Hello,

I wrote another thread some time ago about the nature of futures contracts spontaneously "jumping" in price by large/small amounts when they have the addition of the ";B" at the end for back adjustment. This still seems to be a bug inside the eSignal GUI. Charts have to be refreshed periodically to get rid of the price discontinuity, which is false.
