  • Watchlist with EFS vs scanners

    Hi,
I'd like to understand the diffferences between scanners and watchlists with EFS.

    Specifically,
    1. Is there anything in the scanners that is impossible to re-create with watchlists and EFS?

    2. There are about 5,100 active stocks in NYSE and NASDAQ. Active means they had a price quoted and traded on the last trading day. If I want to scan all these stocks realtime for signals from the watchllist, do I have to first type in the 5,100 symbols? And would that cost me extra subscription fee because I am watching more symbols than the default 500?

    Thanks.

To answer your first question, no if you are skilled enough with EFS and with scanners in their current state there is pretty much nothing in them that you cannot create with EFS. The Advanced GET scanner is a different story and does include some stuff that would be extremely hard to duplicate using EFS. Once our new scanners are released there will be quite a few features in them that EFS will not able to do.

The second question is a bit more difficult. eSignal 11 has symbol hibernation on so basically this would make it so you can type in all 5,100 symbols or copy them in if you are able to find a full list and only the ones that are visible would update. Turning hibernation off would mean that all 5,100 symbols would be attempting to update at the same time and this would give you a symbol count error.
    Thank you,

Eric, thank you for your helplful reply.

On the second point, suppose I have managed to copy and paste the 5,100 stocks on to the watchlist and I do want to update them all. Now, would I get the symbol count error because I am trying to access more symbols than I have access to, or for some other reason? Is there any way to rectify this error (e.g. buying access to additional symbols etc)?

You would get the error because you are attempting to access more symbols at one time than your account currently allows. You can subscribe to more symbols to help with this issue, but we max the symbol count at 2,500.
        Thank you,
