The alert screen comes up but it is filled
First of all you need to ensure that you have Email Alert checked in the Alert/Edit Status dialog box (see attached image).
Then click the Settings button and fill up the boxes (also visible in the attached image) with the relevant information ie the address you want the email sent to, the address you are sending it from and your ISP's outgoing (SMTP) mail server.
Lastly when you set up an alert another dialog box opens and that will also have an Email Alert checkbox that needs to be checked.
Although at first this may seem redundant it actually is done to allow for maximum flexibility where you may want some specific alerts emailed to you while all the others just trigger a Pop-Up window or play a sound
