Creating backup

Hi all, I'm a new user of eSignal and I was wondering what's the best way to backup my work files such as layouts, templates, formulas etc.

I've tried searching the forum and knowledgebase but did not find anything relevant.

Probably the easiest way is to use the Backup tool available in Windows

Hi,

So basically I need to backup the entire eSignal folder? That's about 30Mb.. I was looking for a fast way I can just copy certain folders and/or files.

Related to this, does eSignal keep cache of data? If yes, how can I clear it before I make a backup?

You can select which individual files or folders to backup with the Windows Backup.
Having said that I am not sure at this point if you are asking which tool to use for a backup or which files or folders you would want/need to backup

I'm interested in the latter, i.e. which files will I need to backup in order to be able to restore all my settings in case I need to reinstall eSignal from scratch.

In the eSignal folder you would back up all the individual files you have specifically created or modified such as Layouts, Advanced Charts, Standard Charts, Quote Windows, Portfolio, etc including the defaults for each window type (Default.*). Also from the eSignal folder you would backup the Time Templates.xml file.
As to the subfolders of eSignal you would backup Formula Output (if you are using any efs that read/write files to this folder), Formulas, Pages, Sounds (if you have added any of your own) and Templates. Lastly from the Windows folder you would backup winsig.ini. I believe that should cover all the necessary files.
