Another newbie question, where can I see pre-open activity? I'm looking for 8:00am onwards view of volume/gainers/losers etc.

The Leaders Window will display the Gainers and Losers information that you mentioned; however this data is not transmitted until 30 minutes after the open of the regular trading session. You may want to take a look at the Pre-Market Scanner for the increased ability to go through pre-market data with your specific criteria in mind.
