  • Parabolic SAR, very small increments

I am noticing that for starting and acceleration values less than 0.0010, the built-in Parabolic SAR study does not work.

Small increments less than .0010 are useful for currencies with 4 significant digits, especially on intra day charts where the amount of a move in any one interval is measured in units of .0001

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Hello habrams,

Which version of eSignal are you currently using?
What are some of the specific symbols you are using?

      7.9 build 714

on this chart, EUR A0-FX 30 min

      try values of say, 0.0009 0.0009 0.2

anything below 0.0010 0.0010 and it goes haywire

        Hello habrams,

It looks like the decimal precision for the increment parameter for this study is set to a minimum of .001 by design. The start value can be set to 0.0009 so there may be a reason for the .001 limit on the increment. Not sure if this can be lowered but you may send in a request to our Development team at [email protected].

          Hello habrams,

After another look using $INDU, 0.0009 can be used for the increment. I think it's the nature of the math behind the study on a low priced symbol that is causing the problem. The math behind the scenes is not able to use the level of decimal precision necessary to calculate the study with such low parameters. At any rate a modification to the study will still be required to allow the study to use a greater level of decimal precision.

I wonder if this flaw is also present in the Advanced GET version (which I don't have) of Parabolic SAR. The optimal values for the start and increment for intra day currencies that the Optimize feature finds would then be less than optimal from my experience.

I can fix this for my own needs with an efs study.

            Thanks
