  • New esignal servers?

Does anybody know if these new servers Scott announced some weeks ago are already in use?

"On the positive side, we had already identified that our primary systems were trending toward high CPU usage and we have modified and enhanced the application processing our US Futures feed. As a part of our Capacity Planning Analysis, we ordered 4 new systems with quad processors and at least double the CPU horsepower of the older machines. From our analysis thus far, we feel these newer systems would have handled today's spike without any interruption. The new systems were installed over the weekend and will be configured and tested over the next 2 to 3 weeks. Also based on today's experience, we have isolated several other areas where performance can be improved and that work will begin immediately. Once the new systems are online, we are extremely confident that our systems will handle even larger spikes in activity in the future.

We realize that our customers rely on us for quality and timely data so we sincerely apologize that our systems didn't deliver to our typical high standard. As outlined above, we have already taken aggressive steps to improve our network infrastructure and restore our customers confidence in our service.

Thank you for your continued business.

    Sincerely,
    Scott Johnson
    VP, Client Services"

Can anyone from esignal answer to this question which I've posted some times ago? Today at the time of the FED announcement ES #F data was not updated for 2 or 3 minutes. I would be interested if other users had the same problem at 2:15pm!

So I cannot see any improvement in times of increased activity with this new servers Scott has announced some months ago....

      Hi Zotti,

Yes, the new equipment has been installed and is in production. We were watching pretty closely during the Fed announcement and as far as we can tell, our systems were operating flawlessly and without delays. In addition, we did not take a single call into the Support Center.

Historically, if we did have a problem, it would be measured in a few seconds, never "minutes". If you saw no updates for literally 2-3 minutes, additional troubleshooting is definitely required.

      Thanks.

        Hi Scott,

thanks for your fast answer. The only thing I can tell you is that at FEDs announcement my ES #F charts freezed suddenly and my brokers feed worked fine. So it was not a problem of my network connection(1.5Mbit). And it needed some time that both were in sync again...

        Regards
        Zottl

I'd highly recommend you go thru those troubleshooting steps when you get a chance. Sure sounds like a desktop problem or some intense calculations occuring w/in eSignal.

          Thx

Everything went just fine here with today's FOMC, didn't notice even a single hiccup or delay.

I had noticed a month back HERE that my custom spreads were loading much faster than usual, but now they're loading about the same as before.

Checkraise, thanks for your post! I do not have spreads so I cannot say if they are loading faster or not.

I would say my PCs CPU is 30-40% loaded in average when eSignal is running. No 100% spikes and XP is responsive during this time. Maybe it's a network related problem from Europe to US. Where are you located? I'm in Austria/Europe. Could you please try to ping 216.23.232.240(=ip232-240.esignal.com) from a command line window? This is one of the eSignal connections. My average responsetime here is 120ms. Could you also try the command tracert 216.23.232.240. It shows you the number of network hops from your pc to this eSignal server. I have 22 hops to the target from Austria.

                Hi zotti,

In Arizona, USA here. Average ping to 216.23.232.240 is 130ms and tracert to same shows 19 hops, but 2 of the final 3 time out every time, so it may be 17 just hops.

Not sure if it matters, but I use the M6 contracts, not the #F.

Also, I run many other programs at the same time as eSig, and my eSig layout itself is not tiny, with 37 different elements (charts and quote windwows). I would say my average CPU load is easily 60-70% during the busy times, possibly higher, with spikes to 100% a couple of times a day, possibly more. Everything runs smoothly, even during the spikes, though before I updated to eSig's latest Build eSig did seem to choke and hesitate at times.

791 Build 738 with Windows 2k SP4 here on AMD Athlon 2400 XP with 1 gig RAM and 256K DSL.

                Hope this helps.
