  • Crash Dump Use

    Dear eSignal Support:

    My eSignal 7.3 Build 579 crashes every few minutes. I am running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 8200 with 512M of memory. The program offers a crash dump but I do not know how to use it to overcome this problem. Can you please help me understand how to deal with this (these) problems?

    Hi Burt,

    Are you still experiencing this problem? It's not one I've heard about with this version. I'm also on build 579, using it on a Dell P4 XP Pro. I'll toss this around with some of our Tech Support people for feed back.

    Let me know if this is still a problem.

      Still Having Problems

      Greetings Andy:

      Thanks so much for the reply. I continue to experience the problem. I do no think that it is related to my formulas since I have been trying to use eSignal 7.3 with an Advanced Chart without a study (other than back test). I am using the End of Day Service and seem to experience the problem more often outside of market hours, so it may be related to the data. I am not to certain of this since there is so little I can do during market hours when I get no data. Occasionally eSignal 7.3 will run for quite a while and no problems. Other times it goes down every few minutes. I cannot seem to correlate it with editing a formula, or working with an Advanced Chart or necessarily any other action I take. Often I will return to my computer and the crash notice is on the screen. This is the third build I have installed and I have experienced a similar problem with each version. If no one else is experiencing this problem I wonder what in my configuration or activities could contribute to this problem? I really appreciate your support and look forward to any recommendations you can make. I await your reply;

        Replay and Scroll

        I continue to have severe crash problelms and have some additinal clues. Crashes usually happen whenIuse the mouse ot scroll the data to eariler bars. Entering Replay mode will cause a crash every time. This occurw when I have my studies on the Advanced CHart. Using an Advanced Chart with only a volume study works fine. Appearantly one or more of my studies is creating a proglem. I guess Icold narrow it down to wheich study, but I woudl appreciate your advice on how to get closer to the source of this problem.

          Burtz, I had those same crashing problems in a prior build, but this solved it:

            Certain Crash Situation

            Greetings Technical Support:

            I continue to have crash problems even after implementing Lance's suggestions. I see crashes in various circumstances, but I have found a circumstance that crashes every time and right away. Whenever I display my studies and attempt to enter "Replay Mode" I get an instant crash. Since I do not have debugging tools, can anyone suggest how I can use the crash dump or other methods to identify the source of my problem? I do no know if resolution of this crash situation will solve crash problems in other circumstances (for example when scrolling the data backward in time), but it might!
