      7.3 bug report

I just downloaded 7.3 release today.

Right-click on an advanced chart or cursor window. The menu items show, but if you decide not to do anything you can't get the menu items to go away. eSignal now requires you to select a menu item. ESC doesn't work to close the menus either.

        Hi,
I've just installed 7.3 and are having the same problems as Lancer = "Many icons on the Line Bar, Advanced Line Bar, and Advanced Chart Bar do not match the text descriptions and button functions."

As an example, the BAR icon (which should be to the left of the CANDLESTICK icon) on the Advanced Line Bar is missing. So if you press the CANDLE icon - you get a BAR chart instead of a CANDLESTICK chart.

There is also an extra icon in the Line Bar = it looks like a Gann/speed lines type of icon and definately wasn't there before.

All of the other icons descriptions in the Advanced Line Bar and Line Bar are also moved to the right.

          Paul, Lancer,

Which OS are you running? I am unable to duplicate this here on Win 2000 Pro.

            Hi Jay,
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition. This is the first time i've ever had this problem - and i installed the present 7.3 release "over" a previous 7.3 Beta (its not the last pre-release candidate, but the release 'before' that one).

I suspect that this is caused by installing the release version over a beta. You would suggest an complete uninstall and reinstall for anyone having this toolbar problem. Directions for this procedure can be found at http://share.esignal.com/ContentRoot...Signal+7_2.doc

This turned out to be a problem with the video settings on my desktop. Sorry for any confusion.

                    Hi Jay,
I've just finished a complete uninstall of my old eSignal - and i've reinstalled the latest 7.3 version from the website (this was done to the instructions in the document you advised - eg - add/remove programs, and then individually deleting all of the individual files listed) - and unfortunately the problems with the Line Bars are still present. Any advice and a fast response will be appreciated.

                    regards,
                    Paul

                      Paul,

                      Thanks for the reply.

I apologize for possibly sounding redundant, however I wanted to double-check that the esignal folder was deleted after the uninstall. Even after an uninstall, there are some remaining files in this directory that could be corrupted, and might be causing this problem. This will delete everything that was custom built and stored in the esignal or its sub-directories, so be sure to back-up any of your custom saved files before doing this delete.

Alternatively, you can uninstall, then reinstall in a different directory.
                      Regards,
                      Jay F.

Hi Jay - thanks for the reply,
I've had the experience of having to uninstall/reinstall eSignal about 6 or 7 times now (this was previously due to the problem of having over 400 or so .efs files, and eSignal started doing strange things to them - eSignal thought i had corrupted files, so hence the uninstalls/reinstalls - but this problem was fixed in the latest Builds).

I noticed something during all of these uninstalls = everytime i'd uninstalled and reinstalled eSignal, my "personal" settings for Fibonacci studies and Line Studies were still there - i'd followed a thorough uninstall (as detailed below) and it was obvious there was still eSignal files present on my computer somewhere.

After doing searches i eventually found eSignal files present in the REGISTRY EDITOR in Windows - and there was an eSignal folder with coding for all of the Fibonacci / Line studies.

Could this be where the problem files / coding are still present?

                        Paul.

That is true, there are some settings listed in the registry, however I'm uncertain if toolbar settings are also saved there.

Before trying the registry route, I would suggest trying an install in a different directory other then \program files\esignal\ and see if that solves the problem. If it does not, then be sure to back up your registry before making any changes. To back-up the registry, click on Registry --> Export Registry File...

You could then use Find to locate any reference to eSignal.
                          Regards,
                          Jay F.

FWIW there is a WINSIG.INI folder in the Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software that appears to contain keys related to the toolbars. You could Export that folder and send it to eSignal for them to look at.

                              Hi Alexis / Jay,

What i'd like to do is go with Alexis' suggestion of sending a copy of the files contained in the registry to eSignal for further analysis.

Basically, this problem is a pain, but its not a serious issue thats affecting my ability to trade on a daily basis so far. Also, the process of uninstalling/reinstalling esignal can be a lengthy process - especially if you then have to copy & paste every single Chart, Advanced Chart, Quotes..etc back into the new eSignal installation.

This is a small suggestion : that eSignal store files of the same application in seperate internal folders - eg : for Charts / Advanced Charts / Layouts / Quotes ...etc (like the single Formulas folder) - so that if files need to be transfered its a simple case of copying accross folders, and not every single file (which are currently stored in alphabetical order in eSignal - and all of them mixed in together), which takes ages.

So, if you can advise me on which files from the Registry you'd like me to send (and to whom), then i'll forward them on.

If this process does not uncover anything, then i'll complete another uninstall/reinstall this weekend when i have more time - and install eSignal in another directory (as Jay suggested).

                              Thanks,
                              Paul
