  • How To Export or Backup E-signal

I'm building a new computer and installing a fresh copy of Windows XP. I will be reinstalling e-signal from scratch. Is there a way to quickly export all of my settings (chart settings, custom pages, etc.) so I can import them into my new install?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

This KB Article gives instructions on how to quickly share your page files from one PC to another and which files are needed when transferring all your work between systems. Hope that helps.

    Thanks.

      Dead Link

Scott, I appreciate your help, but the link you provided is a "page not found".

It seems that the Bulletin Board was adding some extraneous characters to the link. I just refreshed it and it should be working now. You may want to try it again

          Got it

Thanks Alex, that's exactly the info I was looking for.

As a suggestion for future releases of e-signal, it may be a good idea to add an "export/import" feature to simplify the procedure. I will be copying the files to an external usb drive and then pasting them to my new computer. Unfortunately, I didn't keep myself very well organized and some of my saved templates are in various directories, so it'll take some searching in various folders to locate all my saved items. But thats still a lot faster than re-creating all my various pages!

          Thanks again.

            ITHam2002,

I work from home and the office and also somewhat disorganized at times. FWIW here's how I do it on a daily basis.

Although I like the fileshare idea, which I hadn't thought of myself.

What I do is once I have a layout setup, rather then search all over determining where all the individual components have been scattered about, I simply do a "save as" for the .lay file and then also for any other: chart files, dashboards, or other files that comprise the layout into one directory (program files/esignal/pages ..usually) hopefully with meaningful names.

If you do automated trading don't forget the symbol dictionary and of course any EFS studies/strategies.

Then I email it to my email address, and when at work download and refresh the files, and while you are at it you may want to archive/backup into your email providers mailbox. Learned the hard way you can't have too many backups!
