  • Using my eSignal data for screening (Excel?)

    Hi guys

Go easy on me as I am not a programmer at all.

I want to use my eSignal Pro RT data to feed a program which will allow me to scan a database of stocks and alert me with a small .wav file or other sound file when a certain price has been hit.

Can I use Excel to do this? Can I feed Excel with my eSignal data and set it up so that I can enter a certain price and when that price is hit, an alarm goes off? I want to be able to enter upwards of 200 stock/futures symbols and monitor all of them in real time.

I found a few pages on the eSignal website that says I should be able to import RT data into Excel, but no instructions as to how to do it and no indication whether Excel can trigger alerts with /wav files.

I spend time at the EliteTrader site and a member there gave me a chunk of code that he says a VB guy could use to easily get what I want happening. If it would be helpful, I could post that code here.

I know that there are plenty of programs that I can buy and services that I can pay for to get what I want but I am trying to see if I can do this with Excel, because most of those programs offer functionality which is beyond my needs, i.e. the ability to scan for technical setups.

Any advice is appreciated. I tried a search here but didn't immediately come up with anything.

Last point is this - I don't mind a learning curve but I am looking for a solution that is fairly plug 'n play. If setting this up requires a lot of VB knowledge and a lot of tweaking, please let me know.

    Thanks

    Dear tradernik,

There are two straightforward solutions for what you want to achieve.

1- Is to use the eSignal program in-build alarm functionality, although this only works for 1 stock/symbol per chart and would require that you have a chart open with an alarm setup for each and every symbols you are tracking.

2- The best solution appears to be using Excel to provide you with a sound alarm for your settings.
Using the eSignal Dynamic Data Export (DDE) facility is quite simple, please click
here to access instructions on how to export data onto an Excel spresheet using the DDE functionality.
Please be advised that we will not be able to support you with any query related with setting up the alarms on the Excel program.
