  • esignal links on the desktop: how could i start it with different layouts ?

    hi,

i have serveral layouts for my esignal, f.e. layout "abc" and "xyz". now i´d like to make two links on my desktop, with the first link i´d like to start esignal with layout abc and with the second esignal should be started with xyz.
normaly esignal starts with the last selected layout.

Open Windows Explorer then navigate to the eSignal folder. There right click on the layout "abc" or "xyz" and drag it to the Desktop.
When you release the mouse select "Create Shortcut(s) Here" from the context menu.
That should create the appropriate links on the Desktop.
To be on the safe side right click the link, select Properties and make sure it has "C:\Program Files\eSignal" in the Start In box.
If you are running 7.4 beta 2 or higher when the application starts it probably will ask "Save the current Page" or "Save the current Layout". Just click No and your Layout should appear.

Opening two layouts together, from desktop

      Alexis,

Further to Fortuna's question, what if I want to open layout 'abc' AND layout 'xyz' both?

Your answer is useful for easy switching between layouts 'abc'. 'xyz', 'mno' etc, within one open eSignal application. So I now have abc.LAY and xyz.LAY icons on my desktop to do this, thanks.

But can a desktop icon open layout 'abc' in one eSignal application, and another icon open layout 'xyz' in a 2nd eSignal application?

And while I'm at it, is there a way to stop an alert window from popping into both applications?

      Thanks

I am not sure but I don't think it is possible unless there is a command line option to open a new instance of the application and I doubt there is one given that eSignal has recommended against running multiple instances of the program.

          Multiple Application Problems?

          Alex,

Why does eSignal advise against multiple open applications? I used to run 4 apps (one for each monitor). But with the 7.3 ability to float windows, I now need to run only two apps.

My (price) alert window pops up in two places - is this because of the two apps, or is there a way to prevent this? Otherwise, I haven't had problems with running two (or four) apps.

I still run 3 - 4 apps at the end of the day on occasion, to do a postmortem of a trade in 4 different time frames. I wish that in manual replay mode, the chart would stay at the intraday bar I was last viewing, instead of jumping ahead to the end of the day, then I wouldn't need four open charts. Does 7.4 allow this?

The only minor annoyance at the start of the trading day is that I open app#1 which opens the last layout viewed - that's ok. Then opening app#2 opens that same layout overtop of the first. I then have to open the (2nd) layout I want, click on 'don't save existing layout', then maximize the view so it moves to the monitor I want it on. Hence, my previous question on the possibility of opening the application directly into a desired layout.

Would any of your associates know of way (a command line option?) that would allow this, even though you don't officially support this

          Thanks
