  • candles jumping/disappearing

Since upgrading to version 10 I have had problems with the live intraday display.

As a new candle begins forming, the previous candle (or the one before that or the one before that) disappears briefly. The chart appears to contract and skip a beat as it waits for the missing candle to display again. It's like watching a really old movie - very jumpy! And very annoying!

I'm running Vista and have tried uninstalling version 10 then reinstalling again with the latest version from eSignal. But it still happens. I have also loaded it onto another computer running XP and it happens on that too.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any fixes?

    thanks

I also have what I think you mean. Being, on a 1 minute chart, or any other minute interval, when the first tick of a new bar is plotted, the 3rd bar back disappears. When the 2nd tick is plotted the 3rd bar back reappears. In a slow moving stock or contract this can cause inaccurate analysis as you might not notice the bar is missing until it reappears as there is no gap in chart due to the fact that the 2nd bar back jumps into the space the the 3rd bar occupied.
Also, if there is a trendline plotted above the 3rd bar back, it is split until the 2nd tick in the current bar is made.
I reported this problem years ago and it is still present in 8.0. However, I just tested the latest version of 10.1 today for a few minutes and the same thing occurred initially but after 5 minutes or so there was no such problem as I remember.

yes, that's exactly what's happening to me, though it started off as being the bar before and now is more often the third bar back as you described. Very annoying, especially on the 1min chart.

I'm hoping to get a response from Technical Support here as my submission through the support page kept producing an error...

thanks for replying - good to know it's resolved itself for you :-)

Actually I used the latest 10.1 version more extensively today
and found that the bug still exists. I took a screen shot and will post it later. In the meantime I found that the bug exists in 1! contracts but not in the current month(M8) contracts, and if you change the 1! chart to a M8 chart and then go back to the 1!,
most of the time this resolves it, but for that chart only.

that's brilliant! I would never have thought of checking that. In fact it's only since installing version 10 that I've been using 1! charts.

I changed back to M8 and the problem disappeared. Then went back to 1! and it came back again.

So now I know what to do to get rid of my candles in the wind - thank you!

I can't remember anyone else ever commenting on this bug. Glad you did as I now know I wasn't seeing things! I posted a picture under eSignal Beta Testing, Bug in 10.1 RC 1 (build 1231) .

While waiting for this issue to be resolved you may want to see this thread in which I provide a temporary workaround that does not involve changing symbols or clicking and dragging the chart [which also resolves the problem)
