  • Spreads Quote Window Problem

    Hi All

    I hope you can help
I'm trying to put a spread quote into a quote window, but it doesn't accept it.

For example, I can enter S N4 - S X4 into a chart without any problems, but if I enter the same symbol in the quote window it comes up Invalid symbol. Any thoughts
    I'm currently running 7.5 beta 3

Also, I heard there was plans for a excel sytle quote window in development where you can program basic calculations. Any idea how long this will be?

    Thanks

    FTSE Beater,

You are correct. You cannot use spreads in a Quote Window. The next big Quote Window enhancement will come in the 8.x series, but we're a ways off on that still (~Q2 of next year is my guess.) Using Excel w/ DDE is still available as a work-around. Here's more information on that.

        Hi All

Another small question. How do I multiply contracts to get them based the same. For example the FTSE is about half the size of the Dow. How would I chart 2 FTSE contracts vs 1 Dow contract

        Thanks

Not sure I have yet to found the answer, but did find this FAQ. Does it help? Also, what is your FTSE symbol, what DJ are you using-- $INDU, or DJ Z3, for example? - Marc

          - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"How do I input spreads in an Advanced Chart?"

To enter a spread in an Advanced Chart, enter the first symbol and follow it with a space; next enter an operator: (-) for subtraction, (+) for addition, (*) for multiplication and (/) for division; then another space and, finally, the second symbol.

Here are a couple of examples of this:
          ES #F - SP #F
          IDC * IBM

You can also enter multiple or fractional symbols as part of a spread. The multiple or fractional number must be in front of the symbol without any spaces.

Here are a few of examples of this:
DELL + .3MSFT (DELL plus 1/3 of MSFT)
          50CSCO - 25YHOO (50 times CSCO minus 25 times YHOO)
          11INTC / 5AOL (11 times INTC divide 5 times AOL)
          1.27IDC * .001$INDU (1.27 times IDC multiplied by 1 thousandth of $INDU)

For futures contracts beginning with a number such as 6A #F, please include the symbol in apostrophies.

Here are a few of examples of this:
          $SPX * '6A #F'
          .5'6S #F' + .5'6A #F'

You also should keep in mind that when you start typing in an advanced chart with a number, it reacts as if you're entering an interval. If the beginning of the symbol you want to use is a number, you need to type any letter to get the entry box open, backspace off the letter, and then enter the symbol.

Please note: that at this time, spreads only work in Advanced Charts. In order to type in a spread you need to first click on the chart you wish to load the spread on, then type in the symbol. Typing a spread into eSignal in any other way will result in an "Invalid Symbol" dialog box.
          Marc
