changing symbols in adv charts

Am I crazy or is there no longer a way to change symbols using the drop down box in the toolbar (as opposed to a quote window which seems to be the exclusive method other than typing)?

You need to turn on the Auto Linking next to the dropdown box and set it to the same color as the charts that you want the symbol transmitted to.

The old method of changing an indiv adv.chart used to be that just adding symbol linking to a chart would change the symbol to the current symbol in the drop down box. Now the toggle button in the chart must be set and then the drop down box symbols can be utilized. I've been farting around with this issue for WAY too long!
