  • esignal could not handle fast market

After the fed announcement, my chart was stuck at 1140 on ES when it was already trading at 1135.

Anybody experienced the same problem today 1/28/2004?

    Hi Robert,

We didn't experience any issues during the Fed announcement. Out of curiosity, was your system under a full load (several charts and EFS studies running)? Please let me know. Thank you in advance.

      Yes,

I have 5 charts on 1 layout. All same ES symbol.

Isn't that what advanced charting designed to do? multiple charts with efs study?

        Hi Robert

You may want to check and see if your computer requirements are within parameters of the eSignal Power User setup. Here is the link for common reasons of chart freezing.

No problems at my end using a relatively similar layout (7 charts 5 of which for ES on various intervals)

Of course one badly coded EFS can kill a system rather easily, much less in a really fast market.

I would examine closely if one EFS seems to be eating up a lot of the time by using the performance monitor.

There are a number of badly coded EFS's out there now.

I only use esignal supplied formulas.

Seems to freeze whenever there is a big move in either directionspike. Even the quote window stopped receiving data.

However, my order entry platform continued to post current realtime prices without any problem. Thats how I knew esignal was way behind. If it were not for the order entry platform, I would be out in the dark.

                Hi Robert,

As far as I know, we didn't have any other reports of our data lagging today, despite the Fed announcement. If you want some further assistance in evaluating possible causes of the lag, it would be helpful if you could provide the following:

PC specs (CPU, RAM and o/s)
Types of charts being used (tick, seconds, 1 min, 5 min, etc.)
What else is running on that machine ( anti-virus, outlook, etc.)
Internet connection (I'm assuming you have DSL or a Cable modem)

One other note: Each new tick causes the entire chart to repaint and recalculate certain EFS routines. So emini charts are especially intensive on the CPU as a result. One thing to check for is old lines. Here's an excerpt from an FAQ that may help as well:

                Line List
The amount of lines added to your advanced charts can also cause your system to slow down or even freeze. As the file increases in size more system resources are needed to manage this file. This is why we've added the "Lines" list pop-up window. This gives customers the ability to manage their own lines, i.e. edit, delete and even be warned when you've reached a pre-selected number of lines. Removing lines that are not being used will most likely help the overall performance of eSignal.

To access the Line List, simply right-click off an Advanced Chart and select Line Tools, then Line List or via the Lines command on the main menu.
                Thanks.

I have used esignal for over a year and I have always had slow charts performance. Especially during peak loads. That's why I only use it as a back up connection. You will never be able to get esignal to admit it's on their side. I have 4mb redundants connections and the fastest pc's money can buy and they still blame it on my computer, etc. And I only use 2 MA's and volume on my charts. No complex formulas.
