Version 7.2 Errors

Since I installed the new version I had numerous "DFC42.dll" or "KERNELL32.dll" or "inexistent memory" erros generated by winsig.exe.

I spent hours with the tech support, i re-installed Windows and 7.2 several times.

First, I realized that Wizard requires I Explorer 6, which is not mentioned anywhere.
Then, I realized that system crashes when I use many indicators with dynamic templates.
I doubled the size of the heap and stack but did not help.

In 7.1 I never had this problem. Many indicators resulted in slow execution but not system crashes.

Is anybody working on a solution to this problem?

More 7.2 problems

Build 541

After starting up esignal I noticed one of my 5-minute charts was blank except for the last bar. I double-clicked on the Symbols counter (to refresh the charts) and winsig promptly crashed. This happened twice in a row.

I clicked on LiveRep at 12:45pm ET and was informed that it's closed even though it should be open

Hi Mihai,

While we have heard of very few incidents of sporadic crashes, by and large there have been no reports of this on a broad basis. We now have thousands of users on 7.2 with no complaints, so when you ask if anyone is working on the problem, we don't see the problem. This is not to say you don't have a problem, but we are led to believe it's isolated to your system. What would be helpful for us to look into this is if we could get a copy of your layout. You can upload your layout to my file share site, and I'll load it on my machine to test. Could be you have a custom formula that may be causing a problem. Click here for the link to my file share site called "Andys Group". As for the need to run IE 6 w/Formula Wizard this isn't necessarily the case. We find that IE 5.5 works with Formula Wizard on a Windows XP system or Win2K. However, we have heard reports that it doesn't always work on Win98.

Please post your layout along with any customer formulas you have to my file share, and I'll be happy to look into this problem of yours.

Our LiveRep crew is in a staff meeting at the time. They'll be back online shortly. I see that you are on build 541. Our latest release of 7.2 is build 544. I recommend that you do a clean uninstall of 541 and then load v7.2 544.

That file 10,070,528 bytes is the same size as build 541.

Is this really build 544?

Hey guys - how about embedding the build number into the .exe file name to make it easier for those of use who are constantly upgrading and saving the old .exe's on our hard drives in case we have to roll back.

An example would be eSig_544_rc1.exe or something similar, in case we forget to rename it after downloading. It seems the build number is the most important thing in determining age of release.

Andy, I've seen a lot of winsig.exe crashes in 544 too:

To avoid crashes, this works: 1) Don't open tick charts until there's enough data to fill the chart (e.g. For US equities, don't open tick charts until about 9:00 AM ET, an hour after 8:00 AM start of data), 2) Don't scroll any charts backwards beyond the point that there is data; 3) when the program is loading data for any reason (opening a chart, application of a study to a chart, etc.), don't do anything in eSignal until it's finished, and 4) don't use Replay on charts with multiple .efs formulas.

With regards to your points 1 and 2 there actually is the option to control how many days worth of ticks can be requested in Tick, Tick bar, Constant Volume bars or Seconds charts.
If you look at the attached image you will see that even though I have scrolled back 'past' where there is data the 100T chart is not requesting any more ticks (as shown by the OK in Cursor Window).
This is accomplished through the Time Template which as you can see in the image is set for T = 5 days (note the inset Daily chart has the same Open price as the Tick chart).
Although Time Templates cannot control the Start/End times or the number of bars loaded in Tick Charts they can request a specific number of days.
In Dynamic mode instead (ie #Days = 0) - which is the default - the chart will only request from the beginning of the current day hence 08:00 ET for stocks or 00:00 ET for symbols that have overnight activity. Also as you scroll back in Dynamic mode you are requesting another day at a time.
For Tick and Tick bars set the Time Template to show a User Defined T interval. For Seconds charts use S, for Constant Volume bars use V.

Follow up to my prior message.

It is important to remember also that once you have requested - through the Time Template - an n number of days for Tick bars, Constant Volume bars or Seconds bars if you then reduce that number in the Time Template you will still see the original n number of days in the chart until you refresh it (Ctrl+OK).
This is actually the correct modus operandi because the chart needs to recalculate all the bars starting from the new initial day set in the Time Template.

Why when I try to plot 50 days of the ES H3, do I get all of the history, more than 50 days.

I tricked the chart by using 405, but was wondering what's up?

Must be I had some sttings wrong on the Time Template, but I couldn't figure it out.

PS - This would be a good area for a listing of the various Time Templates typically used, 930-1615, 930-1600, 10:00 to 3:00, local time vs exchange time, dynamic mode, x number of bars, x number of days, auto start end on/off, all sessions, tick bars, min bars, volume bars etc etc etc . I am sure if I did this, I would finally understand the nuances of Timetemplates.

What is loaded in a chart depends on what you have set in the Time Template for a specific interval.

If the number of Days/Bars is 0 then the program administers/optimizes the amount of data that gets loaded and - as you scroll back - initiates new requests for data to fill the charts.

If instead you tie an interval to a specific number of bars/days then all the charts that use that Time Template in that specific Interval will load the number of bars/days you have specified.
Also as you scroll back no new requests for data will be initiated.
Having said this there is a finite amount of days that can be loaded when intraday data is used. That is currently set at 60 days and will be increased in the near future to 1 year+ and further on to a maximum of 2 years.

If you want to see only 50 days of Daily data then set the Time Template to User Defined, add D as the interval and then type 50 in the #days (or bars it would be the same in this case).
If you want to see only 50 weeks type W for interval, etc.

However if you are using 405 minutes I would imagine that is because you want to see only RTH on the daily. In that case a better solution IMHO would be to use ES H3=2 which also means that you would not have to set the Start/End times.

PS. With regards to your request for a trading times list I do have somewhere a spreadsheet that has all the trading times for almost every US security (expressed in exchange hours). I will try to compose a "best of" list and post it to the forum.
