When I place a formula strategy on the graph do I need to leave the graph open ?

If you are talking about Backtesting then you do need to have a chart open
as that is the only way I can see to call the Backtesting function.
However a backtest can be run on a symbol/interval other than the one in the
chart.
I am not sure though that this is what you were asking.
