Change to Scale and display left and the MA moves up but display still says 12276

Do you have Auto-Scale turned on? If not, the scaling on the left-hand side can get strange because the scale could be different than that of the right-hand side. Basically, if you specify a different scale for the MA and price, then the MA might not line up as expected.
