  • question on indeces

    take $XOI as an example

where do you get the data from ? i assume AMEX sends it out ? do they provide the volume information as well or is that filler generated by esignal ?

the volume appears to represent the number of updates of the index in the selected time increment

wouldnt it be more useful to calculate the traded volume in the underlying securities in the index for the selected time increment ?

    just a thought

      From our Knowledge Base:
      Data Indicies

Why is there no volume on most indices?

For the majority of indices, volume information either doesn't exist or is too intensive to calculate. There are a few exceptions, however. Examples include $DJ or $INDU, for which the CBOT is providing volume data. In the case of symbols like $TICK or $TRIN, the volume histogram in a chart represents tick volume or the number of updates per interval.
