whats the volume supposed to track anyway fro these indeces ?

I don't know what is being incorrectly interpreted as volume such that it displays on a daily chart, but for $COMPQ, we don't receive/provide volume for it. So the value should be zero on a daily chart. $TVOLQ is our symbol for Nasdaq Total Volume.

Intraday charts would display tick volume or number of updates in that time period for most indices.
